SEARCH AND RESCUE

NEWS AND UPDATES

(September 2, 2008)

ALERT status cancelled and SAR teams stand down as Gustav downgrades and does minimal damage.

As Hurricane Gustav becomes Tropical Storm Gustav, it leaves behind minimal damage to New Orleans and its levees intact.  After communications from both the Police Department and Governors Office and confirming this information, Cops helping Cops is now deactivating itself and stands ready for the next disaster.

Cops Helping Cops SAR Teams on ALERT and ready for Hurricane Gustav

Cops helping Cops is now on standby and ready to go as Hurricane Gustav passes Cuba and strengthens.  Right now, the hurricane has become a category 4 hurricane with winds exceeding 135mph.

New Orleans has asked residents to leave voluntarily with expectations of making it a mandatory evacuation later today.

We are in constant contact with the LA Governors Office and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP).  The next 24-48 hours are crucial and we should either be standing down or fully activated by then.
